Feel U Deep

New Single OUT NOW

Jackie O here.
We're so stoked to share our new song, "Feel U Deep" today!

The psychic yearning
Of would-be lovers
Isolated
By racist forces

We are all alone,
Together
As we reach
A Greater Love

(not the lyrics)

$$$ The lyric video above was made by J.P. Hite, an RTF student at UT Austin, for his music video class. We liked his take so much we made it the official vid. Hope you enjoy and do us the grandest favor of sharing, playlisting and spreading the love!

And stay tuned because there's more coming...

Peace, love and death to systemic oppression,
The Bright Light Social Hour

Here Comes the Sun King

Yoooo amigos!!!

TODAY marks the 50th Anniversary of the release of The Beatles' Abbey Road, and to celebrate, we're releasing a cover + video of our favorite deep-cut "Sun King." Check it!!!

CLOSED CAPTIONED EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: The Bright Light Social Hour drops "Sun King" Cover [VIDEO]

*****Stream/purchase here*****

"Austin’s The Bright Light Social Hour share a Texas-tinged neo-psych reimagining of The Beatles’ “Sun King” in honor of the 50th anniversary of the release of Abbey Road. The accompanying video stars controversial Austin nude model Nora Rosenberg as the titular Sun King, who - along with her zombified court - awakens to the sun-bleached ecstasy of being, crescendoing to an ebullient eruption of food, drink and renewed consciousness, all captured on sunny super 8 film by director Jazz Mills and cinematographer Vanessa Pla."

This all came together very suddenly and serendepitously. This song was actually commisioned by Amazon Music for an exclusive playlist in 2016. Earlier this month, I got a calendar reminder that Amazon's exclusive license on the song was up, meaning the rights to the song returned to us. Separately, we'd been talking with Nora, Jazz and Vanessa about doing a video when I saw they'd posted stills from this film in search of someone to soundtrack it. I sent them the song and it was a bizarrely perfect fit. ON TOP OF THAT it happens to be the 50th Anniversary of Shreddward's favorite Beatles record so HERE WE ARE!

I've also put together this Spotify playlist of our summer jams and Vaniel Day Lewis favorites, mostly booty grooves from all eras and parts of the globe, plus a few TBLSH jammies to boot.

A quick update on us:
I just had a baby last month (lil Siena "Starfish" O'Brien), and Shredd has been touring the world as a keyboard/guitar/drum technician for the B-52's, so we're taking these few months off from the road. We thought we had a final version of Jude Vol. II, but we've decided it could be just a little better, so still tying up the loose ends there. I'm currently listening to Curtis play through the 1955 Fender Deluxe he just traded his Champ and Princeton for. OMG it sounds like sweet, sublime ecstasy. Anyway, we hope to have more new stuff in yr ears before long, so be sure to follow us on Apple Music, Spotify or wherever you tune in!

Thank you so much for enjoying our music and for BEING YR BEAUTIFUL SELF!

The Biggest Love,

Hola loves!

We're SO STOKED to announce that we are releasing a NEW ALBUM, Jude Vol. I, February 1 on Modern Outsider Records! The first single, "Lie To Me (Große Lüge)" will be widely available tomorrow (Friday), though you can hear it now by watching the trippy lyric video below (made by our own Joseph Mirasole):

Relix Magazine Premiere: The Bright Light Social Hour Share Lyric Video Ahead Of New Album

Pre-order Jude Vol. I here

Here’s a snippet from our press release cause it’s late I can’t be fucked to say it better:

The Bright Light Social Hour today announced their third LP, Jude Vol. I, set for release February 1, 2019 via Modern Outsider. The first single from the album, “Lie To Me (Große Lüge),” is available here.

Produced by Chris Coady (Slowdive, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beach House) and recorded at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, Jude Vol. I was borne out of the healing that took place after the band suffered the devastating loss of Alex O’Brien, bass player/vocalist Jackie O’Brien’s brother and the band’s manager of four years, who suffered from severe and sudden Bipolar 1 Disorder.

“It was a terrible thing, but it was also the most beautiful thing I’ve ever experienced and probably will ever experience,” Jackie says. “This was all happening as we started the record. Not all the songs are about Alex, but I think even the ones that aren’t all have a bittersweet mix
of overwhelming beauty and terrible loss. The music deals with the ripples it caused in all of our lives, especially in our relationships, with an underlying theme of trying to wrap our heads around all of this.”

Known for their incredible live performances, The Bright Light Social Hour will hit several festivals this spring, like Savannah Stopover, South By Southwest, Boise’s Treefort Music Festival, and Fort Worth, TX’s Fortress Festival. Additional tour dates will be announced very soon.

Jude Vol. I follows the release of an EP, “Missing Something,” whose title track spawned an art house-style video that has since received accolades from the Top Indie Film Awards, the Berlin Music Video Awards, and the Austin Music Video Festival.

We’re so stoked to share this with y’all! Pre-order a copy, cause why the fuck not? I listened to the vinyl test pressing again today. God damn. Chris Coady is an absolute fucking genius.

Anyway, love!
